Living with Embouchure Dystonia Journal

 ABOUT THE MUSICIAN HEALTH JOURNAL

As I write this first post, I’m sharing a photo taken from the stage at Benaroya Hall—home of the Seattle Symphony. At the time, I was working in administration for the Symphony, but through a lucky turn of events, I had the opportunity to perform on that very stage with a local community orchestra.

I’m sharing this photo to offer encouragement and a reminder: progress is possible. There are ways to manage this disorder and rediscover the joy of making music.

The path may require adaptations, trial and error, and a great deal of persistence—but I truly believe it’s possible to rekindle your love for playing.

This journal will focus on topics close to my heart: focal embouchure dystonia, brass-related injuries, and overall musician health. My hope is that it will serve as a resource, a reflection, and a source of solidarity for others navigating similar challenges.

Thanks for being here and reading along. After years of posting on my old Blogger account, this feels like a meaningful step forward—and I’m excited to continue sharing with you.
